WECA, founded in 1972, was organized to assist the Westchester County (New York) Civil Defense Office, now the Office of Disaster and Emergency Services (ODES) with communications support.

WECA's membership consists of over 200 amateur radio operators (Hams) who live in the greater Westchester County area. Active members serve the community at public service events, natural disasters and civil defense situations as the premier auxiliary communications arm for Westchester County.

WECA offers free year round license preparation classes at the Fire Training Center in Valhalla, NY

WECA's main radio systems are located in central Westchester County. The antennas are over 800 feet above sea level. WECA maintains primary and backup voice repeaters for FM radio communications on the following frequencies:
