In 1951, the new Novice License granted CW privileges on small segments on the 80, 40 and 15 meter band. Does anyone out there know when Novices got CW privileges on the 10 meter band? I was first licensed as a Novice in 1974 and had access to 28.1 to 28.2 MHz, so it must have been before that year. Thanks! Bob WB1GCM |

And the answer is........ I located both the 68th and the 69th Edition of the ARRL License Manual. It appears very late in 1972, early 1973, a 10 meter Novice band was created at 28.1 to 28.2 MHz. Around that time, the requirement for crystal control was eliminated, allowing a Novice to use a VFO. I must have studied from the 68th Edition, since I learned that Novices were allowed 75 Watts power input with crystal control only. Maybe I got that one wrong on my exam I took in early 1974? Case closed. Thanks for reading.... Bob Allison WB1GCM ARRL Test Engineer |
