Taking my USA General License exam in a month. I just bought an Icom 7300 and in the dark about what antenna to buy. I drew pictures of my property and situation but this forum will not let me post them for this initial post. I have an A-99 10M-12M on a chimney mount at the moment. I was looking at a windom or end fed di-pole. 6-40M would be a great all around for me to fine tune what bands interest me the most. I've seen windom and end fed dipoles in the same price range that advertise up to 6M-160M! I live in a semi-urban area with a property dimension of 175' x 25' (53.3m x 7.6m). |

I seen good reviews about this company and maybe the offset dipole will work here https://www.ebay.com/itm/HFedz-Windom-OCFD-80m-6m-HF-antenna-200W-Ham-Radio-Antenna/202314945077?_trkparms=aid%3D333200%26algo%3DCOMP.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D55164%26meid%3Df4b79b2cadfe460c98d10b6b18d0a6de%26pid%3D100752%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D192771485320%26itm%3D202314945077&_trksid=p2047675.c100752.m1982 Or maybe an invert L? Very excited to advance in Ham Radio and could use information from someone who knows much more than I. Thank you in advance! N3REN |

I'd suggest a "fan" dipole for 20 and 40 meters, You could use the two trees to support one half of the dipole. The 31 ft mast for your vertical may be able to support the other half of the dipole. 15M may load up just fine with a tuner. Zak W1VT ARRL Senior Lab Engineer |

Thank you for the reply. I'm recently retired and decided to get away from the 2m/70cm repeater life and make the jump into HF so this is all new to me. I figured I could buy an entry level/reasonably priced multi band antenna to cover 6m to at about 40m to take advantage of this IC-7300 and find my niche in HF before buying higher end specific band antennas. |

Utilizing the mast was something I questioned because I know little about the way a dipole operates/radiates. I didn't know if it would cause trouble either with the Antron vertical or the dipole. Neither would be used at the same time as the other, I was more worried about radiation patterns and SWR. Thoughts? |

Here is a site that describes what happens when you bend a dipole. https://www.qsl.net/kk4obi/ If you can use an antenna tuner the March 2016 QST has a multiband dipole that is just 48 ft across and covers 10/20/40 meters. I'm looking for suggestions for a vertical multi-band antenna for HF in a HOA restricted sub-division. I have done research on the Comet-NCG CHA-250B and a Diamond CP-6AR. The Diamond seems like the better antenna except for the 15 foot radial diameter. Any suggestions, thoughts and insights are greatly appreciated. |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_to_Display_the_American_Flag_Act_of_2005 One approach is to display the American Flag with a sturdy aluminum flagpole, and also use it as an antenna. https://www.hamfesters.org/main/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Stealth-Antenna-Guide.pdf 2015 Antenna Guide for The Villages Zak Lau W1VT ARRL Senior Lab Engineer |

The best antenna is one that's in the air and on the air |
