I am considering buying the Hands On Radio Experiments books, but have no idea where to purchase the components. Are there still local stores where you can pop in and pick up a resistor if you need one? If not, any recommendations on a reliable online store to purchase from. The last time I did any experimenting was in the early 90s when RadioShack had a fairly decent selection. ~ KN4LNG

My go to places are Mouser, DigiKey, Jameco, and All Electronics.

I've had good luck with Mouser. I've built several projects with pretty much 100% parts purchased at Mouser. They have a nice online search interface for finding parts that meet certain specs, too.

ARRL used to sell a kit of all parts for Books 1 & 2 (p/n 1255K), but it seems that they no longer offer it. I would reach out to the author (N0AX) to see if he knows of anyone still selling them.

Digi-Key offers to pay for shipping (and insurance) if you submit your order like the old mail order method. That is you send a check or money order to "prepay" for your parts and they will ship using their choice of shipper.
