The club name is in the native Choctaw language, Chahta Anumpa, and translates to “My Radio People” in English. This name is intended to reflect both the heritage of its members as Oklahomans and the group’s central aims. Through the vehicle of amateur radio communication and public service, our purpose is to promote public welfare, foster goodwill, stimulate interest in Amateur Radio, and advance the art and technology of the same. We are committed to educating others, to the very reaches of our communications, about the heroic heritage of Oklahoma’s Native American veterans. In particular, our club exists to honor the Native Americans who valiantly served as Code Talkers during brutal foreign wars. Their heroic service is inextricably linked with the formative use of wireless radio in the 20th century, and there is no true understanding of the importance of field communications during natural or man-made emergencies, or of its role in protecting our liberty, without acknowledging their accomplishments and sacrifices.
