The Horseshoe Amateur Radio Club, Inc. is comprised of persons who are interested in Amateur Radio Communications and Electronics in Blair County PA and surrounding areas. Membership is open to all persons with or without an amateur radio license. The club provides information about license exam study materials, tutoring, and group classes when interest warrants, to help interested persons obtain a license. The club provides Public Service Communications to the local community, helping with walk-a-thon, bike ride, and triathlon events each spring and summer. The club also provides support to ARES and Blair County ACS, providing equipment, training, and technical resources to support emergency communications. The club maintains several VHF and UHF repeaters for it members use and enjoyment. The club also has an APRS and packet node presence on Wopsononock Mountain. The club participates in the ARRL annual "Field Day" communications training exercise and other communications contests and events. Several weekly VHF repeater nets exist, to keep members informed of club happenings, and to sharpen communications skills. The summer picnic and Christmas party are also popular annual club events. The club meets monthly on the second Thursday, at 7:00 PM. Meetings are held at Logan Township Grandview Fire Company, Station 18 located at 611 Grandview Road, Altoona, PA 16601. Please see our website at www.horseshoeradio.com for more information. The Christmas party is attended in lieu of the regular December meeting. The club meets informally on the Third Saturday of the month, at King’s Family Restaurant in Altoona at 9:00 AM (back meeting room). Visitors are welcome, ask for the Horseshoe Amateur Radio Club group gathering. The club has an ARRL VEC affiliated exam team, a Laurel VEC exam team, and amateur license examinations are offered quarterly, on the first Saturday of the month, at 9:00 AM. More information on the Horseshoe Amateur Radio Club Examiners (including test dates) can be found at www.altoonahamexams.org or by contacting Eric, KE3TJ at KE3TJVE@outdrs.net or KE3TJ@arrl.net. The Horseshoe club has a regular email newsletter, and coordinates activities with area clubs in Cambria, Center, Huntington, and Bedford counties. We look forward to hearing from you, or seeing you at one of our meetings or events in the near future! Thank you for your interest in HARC. Tom, W3SF, Club Secretary
